This blog was started by a boy living in the Reiwa era (basketball experience: 3 years in junior high school) who was inspired by watching the movie "Slam Dunk," a basketball manga that was popular in the Showa era.

The story involves reading through a manga that was at his parents' house, starting from the first volume, venting any concerns or questions that he has, researching them, and finally resolving them.

Through this blog,

For Slam Dunk veterans, there was a scene like this, it brings back memories!

For those who are watching the movie for the first time, "I've never read a Showa era manga, but it looks interesting!"

I hope you will each have your own impressions.

I hope that the veteran seniors will reminisce, and that the Reiwa generation can learn a lot from the Showa era.

Volume 1 (1Q-4Q)

1Q: Are the trademarks on the basketballs in the story clear?

A scene in which basketball appears in the film

There are many different brands of basketball.

For example, there are "SPALDING" and "molten".

In the story, the basketballs held by Sakuragi and Rukawa on the cover of "#3 blood" are "SPALDING".

Also, on page 82, "molten" is used, and when Akagi and Sakuragi face off in the gym, "wilson" is used.

Trademark rights refer to marks and names

A trademark right is the right to exclusively use a mark or name that is attached to a product or service.

Conclusion: No infringement

It seems that simply using a particular trademark in a manga or anime work does not constitute an infringement under trademark law.

Have you ever seen McDonald's written in a similar way in other cartoons? I don't recall seeing any other cases where a brand name, such as a sports brand, is used as is.

What was particularly impressive was that it didn't focus on a specific brand, but instead used a variety of brands (SPALDING was on the cover twice!)

The first quarter ends here and we will have a break. Let's run and shout and do our best in the second quarter!
