The bear's true identity was a "slave"

Hello. - Hello.

Kuma's past story has ended.

That's bad.

In fact, Celestial Dragons are the worst.

Unforgivable

The bear was a slave child.

The bears are called buccaneers.

They were mostly slave families of the Celestial Dragons.

Mommy and Daddy are slaves too

When the bear was young

Kuma's parents were killed by the Celestial Dragons.

Kuma's only sympathetic friend, Ginny, is also killed.

What supported me through this difficult time was

The same slave

It was Ginny.

But,

she

Forced to marry a Celestial Dragon

eventually

Following human experiments

He got sick and was killed.

The worst of the past

terrible.

That's terrible.

Ginny's child is Bonnie

Such a despairing bear.

He decided to protect Bonnie, Ginny's child with a Celestial Dragon.

Kuma became a father

Although we are not related by blood,

Bear raised Bonnie like his own child.

Bonnie is sick

But one day

Bonnie gets sick.

In fact, this disease

It was inherited from Bonnie's mother during human experiments.

Kuma consults Vegapunk to treat Bonnie.

Ask Vegapunk about Bonnie's treatment.

The bear that got the OK

But with conditions

However, in exchange for "Bonnie's treatment," the World Government set the condition that Kuma himself would become an emotionless weapon.

The bear was modified.

Bonnie was cured of her illness.

But the bear was modified.

The government had told him not to have any contact with Bonnie.

The bear lost its emotions.

And,

Finally,

The bear lost its emotions and became a weapon.

Bonnie goes on a journey to find a bear

Bonnie sets out on a journey to find her father, Kuma.

I went on adventures to many places.

But the bear is hard to find.

In fact, the bear was watching Bonnie.

Before he lost all emotion, Kuma cared about Bonnie.

So I would go and see Bonnie every once in a while.

This is a father's love.

Kuma's Truth: "I put it on Luffy"

I'll tell you the truth about bears.

Kuma has been watching Luffy for a long time.

He believed that Luffy was the Warrior of the Sun.

I believed that one day Luffy would change the world.

He helped Luffy at Sabaody Archipelago.

Kuma believes in Luffy

I let him get away.

I believe that one day Luffy will save the world.

He asked Vegapunk to program him to protect the "Sunny."

After sending Luffy and the others flying, Kuma

I protected the Sunny for about two years.

This was actually announced to Vegapunk in advance.

He had asked them to program him to protect the Sunny, even if he lost his memories and emotions.

Reunited with Bonnie at Egghead

And,

Egghead edition.

Bonnie in dire straits

There,

A bear that is supposed to be emotionless appears,

I protected Bonnie.

And,

The highest peak of the world government is Saturn.

Powerful punch

A bear who hugs Bonnie even though he no longer has any emotions

and

Bear hugged Bonnie tightly.

There is no emotion

But,

There

Science doesn't understand

Even Vegapunk doesn't know

There was love.

Readers' thoughts on the "Kuma" past story

Woman in her 30s

I was surprised to find out that Kuma and Bonnie were really father and daughter! I always thought he was a terrible guy who tore Luffy and the others apart at Sabaody Archipelago, but looking back at his past, I was really surprised to see that he had become like this after going through a lot of hardships and sorrows in his own way.

Woman in her 30s

I cried.
I read the magazine (standby) and cried while catching up on the story, then I bought the comics and read them all at once and cried even more.
Having been a slave since birth, it is clear how much he cares for his companions, his wife, and his daughter Bonnie.
I sincerely hope that he will be able to find happiness in the incredible life he is living.
He has only hugged Bonnie in a suspended state (unconscious) so I hope he regains consciousness and hugs her again.

Male in his 20s

I felt that it was a very cruel past. I was very moved by the way he was not related to Bonnie by blood and was treated as a slave by the Celestial Dragons, yet he secretly worked against the world's governments as part of the Revolutionary Army. I was also moved by his feelings for Bonnie.

Man in his 40s

Although he was unable to meet her, he was always watching over Bonnie and watching her grow up, and he was a good father.
I think it's amazing that he's determined to cure Bonnie's illness even if it means losing his memory and becoming a complete cyborg.
I cried a little when I saw how he loved Bonnie until the moment he lost his memory.

Man in his 50s

I felt sorry for them. Even if it was for a purpose, it was something I could not bear, so tears started flowing and I could not stop them. One Piece often has a very sad background.

Man in his 60s

The story of Bartholomew Kuma's past was so intense that it made me sad rather than emotional. I was especially ashamed of myself for crying when I saw the scene depicting the bond between him and his daughter Bonnie, in which he had no choice but to become a cyborg.

Male in his 30s

I was touched by his actions of trying to help those around him, even at the cost of sacrificing himself. I felt that Kuma was trying to love people because he himself had never been loved by others. I was moved by the way he tried to protect Bonnie even after losing his memory.

Male in his 20s

He was captured as a child with his whole family, treated like a slave because he was physically strong, and if he escaped he would be captured by fellow slaves and captured again. After escaping with Iwa-san and the others as a child, he joined the revolutionary army along with Dragon, who founded it, but then Ginny, whom he loved, was kidnapped by the Celestial Dragons and made into his wife, had a child with them, turned into a Sapphire Scale, and was abandoned. He returned to Kuma-san, but she died of an illness, and he decided to raise Bonnie in her place, and asked the government and Vegapunk to cure Bonnie's Sapphire Scale, abandoning his own consciousness and body and being treated like a slave in the end. There was nothing truly happy about his life, and it was a constant series of hardships and sorrows, and to be honest, I felt that he would have had an easier life if he was alone.
However, Kind Bear has a strong desire to help people in need, and I felt that he was the kindest character of all.

Woman in her 30s

"I liked Bartholomew Kuma even before I read the past chapters. He saved the Straw Hat Pirates when they were in dire straits on Sabaody Archipelago, and the place they went to was also amazing.
I was always a fan of Kuma, and reading the part about his past made me feel very sad. I think the fact that Kuma had always had kind feelings made the sadness even more pronounced.
After reading Kuma's past, I really wanted Bonnie to find happiness."

Woman in her 30s

“Bartholomew Kuma from One Piece once appeared before Luffy and his friends while they were fighting Kizaru (Borsalino) on the Sabaody Archipelago, and blasted them to pieces with the power of the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi.

The underlying reason seems to have been a desire to let the gang escape, but the exact reason has not yet been made clear.

Kuma had two faces: he was one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and an executive of the Revolutionary Army. At the head of the Revolutionary Army was Monkey D. Dragon, the son of Garp and Luffy's father.

In fact, the other name of the "Gomu Gomu no Mi" was "Hito-Hito no Mi, Mythical Beast Type, Model: Nika," which was also depicted in the anime version and is now a fact that everyone knows. Nika is a legendary warrior and sun goddess who has been passed down among slaves, making people laugh and freeing them from suffering. It gave me an indescribable feeling of freshness.

Male in his 30s

"I thought Kuma had a sad past.

It was painful to read about how he was not even able to meet with the Five Elders to protect Bonnie, who was not his real daughter, from the illness, despite keeping his promise to them, but was ultimately betrayed by them and ended up just doing what they told him to do.

And I found Kuma to be even kinder than I had imagined.

Male in his 30s

If you want to travel, where would you go? This is a line he had been mumbling since his first appearance, but when I realized that this was a line filled with his precious feelings for his daughter, Bonnie, I burst into tears. His self-sacrificing love to protect his daughter, the letters he keeps writing despite his thoughts never reaching their destination - everything about it really struck me. I also have a 4-year-old son, and to be honest, I don't think I would have been so moved by this before I had a child, but now that I'm a parent, I couldn't read it without crying.

Woman in her 40s

I was moved by Kuma's sacrifice for the happiness of others, and was also distressed by his unrequited misfortune. However, looking at the past of the characters in One Piece, even after suffering for a long time, they found a new path to happiness through meeting Luffy, and even though Kuma has lost his memory, I feel that Vegapunk must have retained his original memories, and that Luffy will find them and connect him to happiness with Bonnie. I hope that he will find even more happiness than he has experienced so far.

Teenager

First of all, I was surprised to learn that Bonnie is Kuma's child, and when I heard that the development of Egghead was progressing, I somehow thought that Kuma was involved, but I was surprised to find that he was closer to Vegapunk than I thought. I didn't know what Kuma was like, so I was very sad to see him being used by the government after having a terrible and sad past in this past arc. I can't forgive the government anymore. I wanted to thank him for protecting the Straw Hat Pirates.

Male in his 30s

To be honest, the slavery stories are too cruel and disgusting. The game of competing over how many civilians you can kill lacks ethics. The enemies have done horrible things up until now, but Kuma's past story is so over the top that it's hard to empathize with him. I wish it was a little milder.

Woman in her 40s

He had been a slave for a long time, and just when he had finally found happiness, he had his memories completely wiped in order to cure Bonnie's illness. Later, he rescues Bonnie from the Five Elders, but even after his memories were wiped, he still had an instinctive desire to protect his daughter. I do think there are some sad and touching parts, but it felt a bit too sad, like it was made to make the reader cry, and I couldn't really be moved by it.

Survey: 2024/09/25

P.S. I want Kuma's emotions back.

We readers share the same thoughts

"I hope Kuma's feelings come back. I hope he can talk to Bonnie again."

I hope the day will come when I can see Kuma's smile

Enjoy the animation!
