Time Leap in Tokyo Revengers
Although time leaps are a common occurrence in many works, there are numerous limitations to time leaps in Tokyo Revengers.
Let's get that out of the way first!
First time leap
After his first time leap when he was almost run over by a train, Budo travels back in time.
A friend from 12 years ago shows up there, and although he panics and enjoys his daily life, he gets tangled up with a delinquent and has to face the pitifulness of his past.
This is where I was really drawn in!
It's true that I may remember some parts of my past with a sense of beauty, and that's why I was so attracted to the story in the first episode and got swamped.
And this is where his long adventure begins.
The Mystery of the First Time Leap
Why did he go back in time in the first place?
I think, unlike the second and subsequent time leaps, there is quite a bit of mystery left in the first one.
Because, as the story progresses, you revealed that the trigger is "a strong desire to change the past".
The scene in the work where Budo's own "strong desire" to change the death of his student girlfriend Hinata Tachibana, which was the reason for Budo to go back in time for the second time, resonates with her brother Naoto's "strong desire" (like Budo), and shaking hands with Naoto is the trigger for his time leap is a memorable scene. The scene in which shaking Naoto's hand triggers the time jump is impressive.
Also, in the time leap with Mikey at the end of the work, Budo himself and Mikey's desire to change the past resonated with each other, and the time leap ability was activated.
Which brings me back to my original question.
So how did the first time leap get triggered?
About the first time leap
It is revealed in the work that Chido Atsushi, a student friend of Budo's, pushed him onto the tracks as a train was approaching.
About martial arts at this point in the first place.
At this point in his life, Budo is an ordinary young man who works at a video rental store, feeling that his days are in vain.
Well, at this point, he is experiencing the not-so-frequent situation of being depressed upon learning of the death of his middle school sweetheart, Hinata, but he is still just an ordinary young man.
Sure, there may have been a little "if only I had done this when I was a student..." feeling. But isn't that what most adults do?
If only I had done this then, if only I had studied harder when I was a student, if only I hadn't gotten a job here..."
I work every day, taming such impossible "what ifs.
However, I can't imagine that these feelings have the same energy as the "strong feelings" that are described in the work.
What I think about time leap triggers
I assumed that this trigger is triggered by the resonance of "a person who has a wish similar to Budo Hanagaki's" and "Budo Hanagaki's heartfelt wish" as it is mentioned in the work.
On the transfer of the trigger from Naoto to Mikey
I came to the above conclusion in the scene where Naoto could not trigger when he said that he no longer wished to change the past.
No matter how much Budo wishes to change the past, if the trigger opponent's thoughts are not similar to it
The ability is not activated.
Conversely, I think it could be said that the moment Mikey and Budo shook hands in that abandoned house, they strongly wished to "change the past" so that it could become a trigger.
In other words, at the moment of contact with Hanagaki Budo, the triggering partner
1) "I know Hanagaki Budo (because he must resonate with Budo's thoughts)."
➁ "To wish to change (return to) the past with the same desire as Hanagaki Budo."

Well, not so fast! This is the premise so far! Finally, the conclusion, so please bear with me!
The first time leap is a bit different
Naturally, this first time leap is the start of the story.
It is different in nature from other time leaps. Because up to this point, Budo Hanagaki is just an ordinary young man who has never even had a time leap.
But there must have been a talent for time leaps in him all along.
I just didn't have anyone to pull the trigger on that ability...
Here are my observations, which are as close to delusional as I can get!
Trigger pulled by Atsushi Sendo
What is a trigger, anyway?
Generally speaking, I think the image of a trigger such as a gun is fine. And the "gun" in this work is the Hanagaki Budo itself.
I thought that he could not go back in time alone, just as a "gun" itself cannot be triggered by its own will.
So he could not pull the trigger, thinking "if only I had done this," "if only I could have changed the past," etc.
And so the fateful day arrived.
On Atsushi Sendo's Regrets
I believe that the regret of Atsushi Chido, aka Akkun, is the very path he has taken, as evidenced by the outcome he has chosen in the future.
I don't want this, I don't want this future, when I was a student I used to dream more about the future."
There must have been nights when I thought about that when I thought about Akkun's strong sense of justice as a student.
But still, I managed to stay on the path because I didn't have to confront my past.

I have chosen the path that I have chosen, and I have continued to cheat myself to this point.
And maybe they wished for this.
I want to go back to before all this happened. Not a few years ago, but when I was that student."
Oddly enough, this wish is in line with Budo Hanagaki's feeling of "somehow not being satisfied with reality" and
I resonated with the thought, "I was remembering my school days, my heyday, when I was also a lover with Hinata Tachibana."
And wasn't the destination assigned 12 years ago today? I thought about it!
A crying hero who inspires sympathy because he is ordinary.
Budo Hanagaki is a very ordinary young man.
He is not a strong fighter, not dexterous, not smart.
Still, it is only his own dedication that attracts us to him.
It is because of his unadorned words that they reach not only the characters in his works, but also us.
And then, finally, the animation begins for the final chapter!
