Fullmetal Alchemist" was serialized in Monthly Shonen Gangan from the August 2001 issue to the July 2010 issue.

Van Hohenheim is the father of Edward and Alphonse Elric, the protagonists of the story. Here is a summary of his clumsy but kind father figure.

Feud with the Elric brothers

Van Hohenheim has Trisha Elric, the mother of the Elric brothers, as his wife, but she is not officially registered. This is due to his special constitution.

Also, since the brothers had been traveling around the world for "a project" since they were young, they probably did not have much family-like time to spend with their wives and sons. The older brother, Edward, labeled them as "bastards who abandoned their wives and sons," and even when they reunited after they grew up, they had an awkward time with each other.

Thus, although he may not seem to have much interest in his family, he is actually quite a family-oriented dad.

When he left the house for the last time, he had a rather stern expression on his face, but it was actually because he was afraid that he might cry if he saw his sons.

His special constitution has made it difficult for him to relate to others, but he has a special and deep love for his family.

A loving father is cool.

Unparalleled competence

After a tentative reconciliation with the Elric brothers, the brothers and their father work together to confront the mastermind in order to fulfill his long-held goal.

What he shows there is his overwhelming power as an alchemist.

His alchemy, using the wisdom and knowledge of his long life and the vast amount of energy he has captured in his body, overwhelms the Elric siblings. He may not have had the slightest respect for his father, who abandoned his siblings and mother, but when he is shown in this way, he must admit that he is a father at least a little.

It's cool that the father has a big back.

Actually, he's a tender and tearful man.

Hohenheim, who has become nearly immortal due to a special constitution, had thought he would just accept his fate and live, but then he meets Trisha and regains his human emotions.

I want to grow old and die with Trisha and the kids... together."

His tears when he leaves his family, with whom he has special feelings, and his concern that he might hurt his sons by touching them, reveal his tender inner life.

A stern looking but actually kind father is cool.

summary

They became absorbed in their own research, left home when their children were young and lost touch with them, or did not show up for their mother's final days.

Van Hohenheim may not be the ideal father, but he is actually charming and loving at heart, and is definitely one of the top characters I personally would like to see as a father.
