Hello.

Fullmetal Alchemist (commonly known as Hagaren) is said to be classified as a dark fantasy, but what I found interesting while reading it is the way the story talks about "family love" at various points.

There are also scenes in which Edward, Alphonse, and Winry are loved by their parents and Pinako's grandmother, and the scene where President Bradley talks amicably with Selim and his wife was also impressive. There was also a scene where Winry was present at the birth of a child.

Well, in Fullmetal Alchemist, family love isLieutenant Colonel Mars Hughes" Don't forget.

Lt. Colonel Hughes is a married man with a wife (Grace) and a daughter (Elysia).

As anyone who has read the original knows, Lt. Colonel Hughes is the mostDoting parentI think he is a person who suits the words "

In fact, the author of this article recently became a father himself, and reading it from this new perspective changes the way you look at it.

This time, we will look at Lt. Colonel Hughes' love for his family.

*Although Lt. Colonel Hughes becomes a Brigadier General in the middle of the story, we will use the rank he had when he first appeared. Also, this article contains spoilers.

A glimpse of affection from Lt. Colonel Hughes' lines

A pay cut won't stop my love, hahahaha!

Lt. Colonel Hughes loves his daughter very much.

He even uses the military line during work to brag to Colonel Mustang. The Colonel is kind enough to go along with it, lol (though he tells him to find a good guy too, and then hangs up, saying "Shut up!")

The person who was keeping track of the calls also said, "It's embarrassing to listen to."

Afterwards, I was scolded and told, "If your superiors find out, you'll get a pay cut," and the above was what I said at that time.

Hmm, wonderful lol

Money is so important! As long as there is love, it doesn't matter! Like that. He's not a man among men, but a father among fathers. I want to emulate him.

Celebrations are more fun when everyone shares them, right? Welcome to the Hughes family.

After Edward sneaks into the Fifth Laboratory, his automail breaks down and he is injured and unable to move, so Winry comes to Central to perform maintenance.

Winry was having trouble finding a place to stay, but when Lieutenant Colonel Hughes happened to be visiting Ed, he half-forcefully took Winry away, saying, "Come stay with me." (His specialty is the nickname: kidnapper.)

Without knowing why, he heads to the Hughes house with a lot of presents in his arms, and it turns out that that day is the day of the Hughes' daughter Elicia's birthday party.

Winry, being an outsider, is hesitant at first, but then Lieutenant Colonel Hughes says the line above.

It doesn't matter if it's the first time you've met someone. Happy things should be celebrated together.

So warm... Lt. Colonel Hughes is so kind to everyone, like he would treat a family member, that he's really charming. I think he was loved by everyone.

This tolerance is wonderful. I want to emulate that.

Also worth seeing is the scene where Lieutenant Colonel Hughes gives advice to Winry, who is troubled by the fact that Ed and Al haven't said anything.

Not only my daughter, but my wife too! (Ehenpui)

Of course, I love my wife too.

This was also a line I uttered while talking to Colonel Mustang on the phone.Even though the person on the phone is single, I'm surprised he's bragging so much...)

Even after giving birth to a child, he never forgot his love for his wife. He was a man who truly loved his wife.

I'm sure Gracia is very lucky to have a husband like this.

Well, anyone would want to brag about having a wife as beautiful as that.

I think there are a lot of dads out there who brag about their children, but I think there are surprisingly few who talk about their wives to those around them.

This may be something that comes naturally to Lt. Colonel Hughes. I want to emulate his example.

My wife and kids are waiting for me at home...I can't die here!!

However, Lieutenant Colonel Hughes was the first to notice the Homunculus' plot, and was attacked by Lust and Envy.

When he finally tries to call Colonel Mustang, he is shot and killed by Envy, disguised as Glaceon.

That's what he said just before.

Even Lt. Colonel Hughes must have been shaken by the sudden threat to his life.

They must have been at gunpoint and feared they could be killed at any moment.

But until the very end, he kept thinking about his family waiting for him at home. He knew he couldn't let his family suffer.

It would take more than just ordinary family love to say something like that in that situation.

Also, just a little speculation, but later in a flashback to the battle to annihilate Ishval, there is a scene where Colonel Mustang asks, "Why do you fight?"

At the time, Lt. Col. Hughes (then a captain) said,It's simple, "I don't want to die" That's it, the reason is always simple"That is what I mean.

I think this line, "I don't want to die, that's all," is paired with the line above, "I can't die here because my family is waiting for me."

My reason for not wanting to die changed to my family.

Well, it seems he met Glacia during the annihilation battle, but that was a moment that made me realize that values change after starting a family.

Revisiting the charm of Lt. Colonel Hughes

What do you think of this article, which starts from asking the question, "What is family love?" and delves into the charm of Lt. Colonel Hughes?

Lieutenant Colonel Hughes is a dandy looking character, very friendly and loved by everyone, and I'm sure every FMA reader has grown to love him.

Furthermore, the voice actor for the anime version is Keiji Fujiwara, who plays one of the most representative Japanese dads in a certain anime.

The fact that he has that voice over Lt. Colonel Hughes, who is already filled with love for his family, makes him even more persuasive.

I've gotten off track, but I think it will make me think again about the love I have for my family, so I'm thinking of rereading FMA.
